SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Both the Saint Mary's University men's and women's cross country teams were in action on Friday, as they took part in the Notre Dame Catholic Invite.
The men, behind a solid finish from
David Feather (27:34), came in 15th out of 25, while the women took 18th out of 25.
According to Cardinals coach
Ward Berndt, SMU was using this as a training meet to get ready for next weekend's Roy Griak Alternative, and everything seemed to go as planned.
“The men ran really well,” Berndt said. “We put them through a pretty tough training week, so their legs were a little flat. This race completely served its purpose, and for the most part they hit the times we had set for them.”
On the women's side, the same game plan was set: train through to get ready for next week.
“It was a little different for the women as we wanted them to be controlled early on, and aggressive late in the race,” Berndt said. “This was a good stepping stone into next week, and they competed, which is what I wanted to see.”
