SARTELL, Minn. — For the Saint Mary's University men's golf team, Day 2 was definitely more enjoyable than Day 1.

The Cardinals shaved 30 strokes off their opening-round performance at the Saint John's Invitational Sunday, posting a second-day 347 to finish 21st.

Ethan Austin (Northbrook, Ill.) led the way for the Cardinals, shooting rounds of 86-83—169, while D.J. Borgen (Red Wing, Minn.) rebounded from a disastrous opening-round with the team's low round of the tournament, shooting an 82 for a 182 36-hole total. Patrick Suchla (Racine, Wis.) chipped in a 95-90—185, while Matt Feriancek (River Falls, Wis.) rounded out the Cardinals' top four with a 96-92—188.

Host Saint John's won the team title, shooting 300-297—597 to edge runner-up UW-Eau Claire by eight shots. The University of Manitoba was third (609), with Nebraska Wesleyan (610) and Gustavus (611) rounding out the top five.

The Cardinals are back in action next Saturday and Sunday, taking part in the Macalester Invitational.
