LA CROSSE, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team, coming off a 3-1 loss to Carleton on the road Saturday, steps out of conference play on Tuesday, traveling to Viterbo for a 4 p.m. nonconference game against the V-Hawks.

The Cardinals dug themselves a 3-0 hole and never recovered, as Carleton handed SMU a 3-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback at Ochrymowycz Field Saturday. Viterbo, meanwhile, is coming off 3-0 loss at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Fresh off a 2-0 nonconference victory over Marian, the Cardinals followed that up with a hard-fought, 1-1 nonconference tie against Viterbo at Ochrymowycz Field. Ryan Rademacher (La Crosse, Wis.) scored SMU's goal, while goalkeeper Jon Szafranski stopped a career-high 18 shots.

Steve Boussie (Troy, Mich.) netted his third goal of the season vs. Carleton Saturday, while Juamaine Venter (Rochester, Minn.) picked up the assist. … Venter scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season vs. Bethel last Tuesday. … Venter, who recorded the first two-goal game of his career vs. Crown on Sept. 7, is also the team leader in points (10). … After scoring just two goals in his first two seasons with the Cardinals combined, Venter has already netted four goals in seven games this season. His 10 points are also a career high. … GK Chris Williams (Chicago, Ill.) made his first start of the season in goal vs. Bethel last Tuesday, stopping a career-high 11 shots. … Eight of SMU's 10 goals have come in the second half — including five of the Cardinals' last six goals. … Both of SMU's wins this season have been by shutout ¬— 3-0 vs. Marian and 1-0 vs. Ripon. … SMU's last two losses have both been 3-1 decisions.

Viterbo enters today's game vs. Saint Mary's mired in a two-game losing streak. … The V-Hawks have been shut out in four of their six losses — including both during their current two-game slide. … Viterbo has scored three goals in its two wins (1-0 vs. Trinity Christian College and 2-1 vs. UW-Superior), but has managed just two goals in its six losses. … Jamie Robertson has accounted for three of the V-Hawks' five goals this season, while James Lockley and Tyler Gerhartz have netted the other two. … Viterbo has scored four of its five goals in the second half. Nine of the 15 goals scored against the V-Hawks, on the other hand, have come in the first half.
