MOORHEAD, Minn. — A year ago, the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team battled then-unbeaten and league-leading Concordia to a 0-0, double-overtime tie.

And when the Cardinals took the field Saturday afternoon for their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest against Concordia, the Cobbers were once again among the conference's elite — having lost just once in their first eight contests, while also boasting a No. 22 national ranking.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, there would be no double-overtime tie this time around, as Concordia scored single goals in each half in handing SMU a 2-0 setback at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.

The Cobbers kept Cardinal goalkeeper Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.) busy, pelting her with 14 shots on goal — and the freshman keeper was up to the task, making a career-high 12 saves.

On the flip side, Concordia's defense smothered the Cardinal offense, holding SMU to just two shots — one by Katie Holmes (Edina, Minn.) and one by Kelsey Schneider (Portland, Ore.) — while CC goalkeeper Ali Nelson did not have to make a save in recording her fifth shutout of the season.

CC's Marta Prosinski broke a scoreless tie in the game's 33rd minute, while Sarah Rounds netted her team-leading eighth goal of the season 22 minutes into the second half to give the Cobbers a two-goal cushion.

The Cardinals (0-5-0, 1-9-0) are now off until next Sunday, when they host Hamline in a 1 p.m. MIAC game at Ochrymowycz Field.
