RED WING, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's golf team came up empty in their season-opening dual meet against Macalester Thursday, as the Scots handed SMU a 325-349 setback at the Mississippi National Golf Course.
Ethan Austin (Northbrook, Ill.) led the way for the Cardinals, shooting an 82 over the par-71 layout, while

Tim Wolford (Maple Grove, Minn.) added an 89.
D.J. Borgen (Red Wing, Minn.) and
Will Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn.) rounded out the Cardinal scorers with rounds of 91 and 92, respectively.
“(Assistant) Coach (Ryan) Egan and I talked to the guys after the match and we told them, 'It's not that we want you to overachieve, but we want you to live up to your capabilities. We didn't do that today.
“It was good for the guys to get out and play a course other than Cedar Valley, and really, it was a shot here or there that made the difference,” Landrum added. “Our goal is to just strive to get better every time we go out.”
The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday, traveling to Northfield, Minn., for a dual meet against Carleton.
