NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University and Carleton men's golf team squared off in their annual Ryder Cup match Sunday afternoon, and this time around, it was the Knights who went home the victor.
Carleton handed the Cardinals a 14 ½-6 ½ setback in the 18-hole match played under modified Ryder Cup rules. Each foursome included two players from each team. For the first six holes, teams counted the best score between the two teammates. Over the next six holes, it was match play against one of the opponents, and over the final six holes, it was match play against the second opponent in that group.
Alex North (Faribault, Minn.) picked up two of three possible points to lead the way for the Cardinals, while
Jason Horstman (Faribault, Minn.) and
D.J. Borgen (Red Wing, Minn.) each garnered 1 ½ points.
The Cardinals are back in action this weekend, as SMU travels to Ham Lake, Minn., to take part in the 36-hole Augsburg Invitational at Majestic Oaks Golf Course.
