WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team, fresh off a 1-0 win over Buena Vista on Wednesday, is back in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday, hosting Hamline in a 7 p.m. contest at Ochrymowycz Field.

The Cardinals got a second-half goal from Gustavo Salas-Lopez (Carson City, Neb.) and shutout goaltending from Joey Petrich (Elk River, Minn.) en route to a 1-0 nonconference win over Buena Vista Wednesday at Ochrymowycz Field. … Hamline, meanwhile, has been off since last Saturday, when the Pipers dropped a 4-2 decision to league-leading St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.

And, unfortunately for head coach Pete Watkins, the Cardinals' couldn't shovel fast enough to dig themselves out, as the Pipers handed SMU a 2-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback in St. Paul, Minn.

Saturday's game against Saint Mary's is a homecoming of sorts for HU head coach Alex Morawiecki, who was a standout high school soccer and hockey player for Winona High, before going on to play both sports at Hamline. … Last Saturday's loss to St. Thomas pushed the Pipers' losing streak to a season-high four straight. … Five of Hamline's eight losses have been decided by one goal. … Hamline has surrendered four goals in each of its last two games, losing to St. Olaf 4-0 on Sept. 26 and falling to St. Thomas 4-2 on Sept. 29. … Tyler Tallaksen and Greg Northrop accounted for Hamline's two goals against St. Thomas last Saturday. … Northrup's goal against the Tommies moved him into a tie with Sam Studer for the team lead in goals with three.
