LA CROSSE, Wis. — Distance runners stole the show for the Saint Mary's University track and field teams at the UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge Friday evening, as
Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) and
Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) led the Cardinals' charge.
Haley clocked a time of 15:22.65 to place fifth in the 5,000 meters, while Borash stopped the clock in 4:00.76 to posted a seventh-place showing in the 1,500.
Other top times for the Cardinal men included:
Jake Traxler (Le Center, Minn.) in the 1,500 (4:07.04),
John Soucheray (Woodbury, Minn.) in the 5,000 (15:50.86),
Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis.) in the shot put (12.56 meters) and hammer throw (39.42), and
Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Wis.) in the hammer throw (43.64).
On the women's side, Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.) clocked a time of 5:12.88 in the 1,500, while Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) and Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) added throws of 11.37 meter in the shot put and 42.57 meters in the hammer throw, respectively. Kassondra Burts (Fairmont, Minn.) chipped in a mark of 41.53 meters in the hammer throw.
The Cardinals have a busy week next week, as the SMU men travel to Moorhead, Minn., to take part in the Concordia Invitational on Tuesday, while the Cardinal women are headed to St. Paul, Minn., for the Hamline Invitational on Wednesday. Both teams then return home for the SMU Open on Saturday at the SMU Track & Field Complex.
