RED WING, Minn. — Saint Mary's University's Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.) had a bit of a home-field advantage when the Cardinals kicked off their men's golf season Friday in a dual against Macalester.

After all, Mississippi National Golf Links — site of Friday's dual — is his home turf. And the Cardinal freshman took advantage, shooting a team-low round of 83.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Macalester's depth proved to be too much, as the Scots handed SMU a 328-342 setback.

Eric Zimmerman (Minneapolis, Minn.) chipped in an 85, while Ethan Austin (Northbrook, Ill.) added an 86 and Will Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished with an 88.

Macalester's Dan Shi had the day's low round, carding a three-over-par 74.

The Cardinals are back in action next Thursday, traveling to Waseca Lakeside Golf Course in Waseca, Minn., for a dual match against Bethany Lutheran.
