WINONA, Minn. — Talk about bad timing … .

As far as the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team is concerned, Lawrence picked the wrong time to right its offense, as the Vikings scored their first two goals of the season to hand the Cardinals a 2-1 nonconference setback Sunday afternoon at Ochrymowycz Field.

The Vikings, who came into Sunday's contest without a goal in their first four contests — including a 1-0 loss to UW-La Crosse on Saturday — got on the board 12 minutes into the first half Sunday, as Keli Muchowski's shot eluded SMU goalkeeper Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.).

SMU evened things up 17 minutes into the second half, as Rachel Tackmann (Lake City, Minn.) recorded her first collegiate goal — lacing a penalty kick shot into the lower left-hand corner.

The deadlock did not last long, however, as Lawrence's Kirsten Edwards banged home a cross from Sarah Tiano less than three minutes after Tackmann's tally to seal the Vikings' victory.

Halling finished with seven saves — including five in the second half — while Lawrence goalkeeper Cassandra Burke made four saves.

The Cardinals (0-4-0 overall) are back in action on Wednesday, when they kick off Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 4 p.m. game against St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.
