ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University swimming and diving teams are back in action on Saturday, as the Cardinals travel to Hamline to take part in the Hamline Invitational

Cardinals' Last Action:
Joe Tonda (St. Paul, Minn.) picked up a second-place finish and Evan Lecy (St. Paul, Minn.) added a third-place effort to lead the SMU men to a fourth-place finish at the SMU Invitational last Saturday at the Jul Gernes Pool, while Rose Berg-Arnold (St. Joseph, Minn.) recorded a third-place showing and Grace VanBeest (Flossmoor, Ill.) chipped in a fifth to pace the Cardinal women to sixth.

Cardinals at the Hamline Invitational — A Year Ago:
November 3, 2012: Brian Baker (Wykoff, Minn.) posted back-to-back second-place showings in the diving competition, while Mark Ross (Dubuque, Iowa) chipped in a second-place effort of his own, to lead the Cardinal men to a fourth-place team finish. The Cardinal women, behind the efforts of Abby Kratzke (Dent, Minn.) and Anna Smaron (Maple Plain, Minn.), meanwhile, placed fifth in their season-opener.

The Cardinals make a return trip to St. Paul, Minn., next Saturday, as SMU takes part in the Macalester Invitational.

Joe Tonda (St. Paul, Minn.) made his first collegiate meet a memorable one at the SMU Invitational last weekend, placing second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.52. The Cardinal sophomore was also the team's top finisher in the 100 backstroke, where he and fellow freshman Grace VanBeest (Flossmoor, Ill.) each collected fifths — with Tonda touching the wall in 1:00.64 in the men's race, while VanBeest tallied a 1:15.17 in the women's event. … Rose Berg-Arnold (St. Joseph, Minn.) was third in the one-meter diving (177.0) and sixth in the three-meter (140.85), while Evan Lecy (St. Paul, Minn.) led the SMU men's divers, placing third in the three meter (137.00) and fourth in the one-meter (144.10). … P.J. Heller (St. Cloud, Minn.) also picked up a fifth-place finish for the Cardinals, stopping the clock in 23.89 in the 50 freestyle. The sophomore also added a seventh in the 100 freestyle (53.23). … Last Saturday's SMU Invitational was the only home meet of the season for the Cardinals.
