WINONA, Minn. — Macki Fadenss (Eau Claire, Wis.) certainly made an impressive fashion during her first year as a member of the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team.

How impressive.

Fadness' first year in the red and white was so good that she was honored by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference — twice.

Fadness was one of just two freshman named to the All-MIAC First Team, it was announced Thursday. As if that wasn't enough, Fadness joined fellow freshman and All-MIAC First-Teamer Chelsea Koehn of Hamline on the MIAC's All-Rookie Team.

And Fadness wasn't the only Cardinal earning recognition by the conference office, as Haley Coolsaet (Grosse Ile, Mich.), Mackenzie Klimek (Hastings, Minn.) and Breanna Peterson (Macomb, Mich.) were all named honorable-mention All-MIAC.

Fadness took the conference by storm this season, appearing in all 18 league games — ranking second among MIAC defensemen in goals (4) and points (10). Fadness played in all 23 games for the Cardinals this season, compiling five goals and seven assists for 12 points. She collected her first collegiate two-point game with a pair of assists against Saint Benedict on Feb. 1, and scored goals in three of SMU's last six games.

Peterson closed out her sophomore season as the team's scoring leader, netting a team-best five goals in 18 MIAC games. Peterson added four assists for nine points, while Klimek tallied four goals and six assists for 10 points, and Coolsaet recorded three goals and four assists for seven points.

For the season, Peterson closed out her sophomore year with team-highs in all three offensive categories — goals (8), assists (8) and points (16) — in 23 games. Klimek shared the team lead with Peterson in assists and finished with 12 points, while Coolsaet chipped in five goals and five assists for 10 points.

Regular-season champion and second-ranked Gustavus swept the conference's top awards, as the Gusties' Lindsey Hjelm was named MIAC Player of the Year, while GAC coach Mike Carroll was tabbed MIAC Coach of the Year.

As part of the conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the seventh annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's hockey, which included SMU's Julianne Bartosz (Mokena, Ill.).
