NORTHFIELD, Minn. — John Soucheray (Woodbury, Minn.) had his time in the spotlight for the Saint Mary's University track and field teams Friday evening, when the junior shattered the school record in the 5,000 during the opening day of the two-day Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.

Saturday afternoon, it was Coco Booker's (St. Paul, Minn.) turn on center stage.

Booker, competing in her final MIAC Indoor Championships, uncorked a toss of 12.56 meters to place fourth overall and highlight the Cardinals' efforts.

“It was a pretty solid second day,” said SMU coach Shawn McMahon after both his teams placed 11th in the team standings. “We had some really solid performances — no record-shattering efforts like John's (on Friday), but all-in-all, it was a good day.”

Booker, who placed second in the conference indoor championships a year ago, didn't waste any time recording her best throw of the afternoon, launching her 12.56 effort on the first of her six throws.

Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.), who placed seventh on Friday in the weight throw with a throw of 14.18 meters, recorded a throw of 10.93 meters in the shot put but did not reach the event's final. Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.), who had a busy Friday — recording an 11th-place effort in the 400 (62.47), while adding a time of 8.27 in the 60 — closed out the two-day event with a 16th-place showing in the 200 with a time of 27.99, while Sarah Fanning recorded a leap of 4.60 meters in the long jump.

Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinal men, closing out his collegiate indoor career with a 12th-place time of 2:37.28 in the 1,000. Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) and Soucheray led the way for SMU in the 3,000, with Haley clocking a time of 8:57.76 to finish 19th, while Soucheray was close behind, stopping the clock in 9:03.30 to place 21. Bryan Ortman, competing in his first conference indoor championships, chipped in a leap of 12.02 meters in the triple jump.
