WINONA, Minn. — Talk about being in the zone.

Saint Mary's University's Mary DeBartolo (Chicago, Ill.) has been unstoppable for the Cardinal women's hockey team, as the junior forward entered Wednesday's nonconference game against St. Norbert riding a four-game point streak — a streak that included one goal and six assists.

Make that a five-game point streak that includes two goals and seven assists.

DeBartolo had a hand in both SMU goals — assisting on the first and scoring the game-tying tally — as the Cardinals battled St. Norbert to a 2-2 tie at the SMU Ice Arena.

"I thought we played pretty well — especially in the second and third periods," said SMU coach Terry Mannor. "We struggled a bit (in the first), but really came on and pretty much controlled the play the last two periods."

Jesse Cwik (Chicago, Ill.) got the Cardinals on the board nine minutes into the opening period, taking a feed from DeBartolo and rifling a shot past St. Norbert goalie Katie Aluia for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Green Knights would answer less than two minutes later on a goal by Zoe Kurth, and SNC would then take its first lead of the game on a goal by Stephanie Slinde 10 seconds into the second period.

St. Norbert would maintain that one-goal advantage until early in the third period, when DeBartolo scored an unassisted goal to pull the Cardinals even.

SMU goalie Marah Shields (Mitford, Mich.) finished with 36 saves for the Cardinals — including 18 in the first period when SNC held a 19-10 advantage in shots on goal — while Aluia finished with 29 saves in goal for the Green Knights.

The Cardinals (4-8-1 overall), who are now unbeaten in their last three games, return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday, as SMU hosts Bethel in a 7 p.m. contest at the SMU Ice Arena.
