ST. PETER, Minn. — If anyone's to blame for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's soccer team's 5-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss to Gustavus, it's Saint John's.
After all, it was the Johnnies who snapped the Gusties' 17-game conference winning streak with their 1-0, double-overtime victory last Saturday.
And, unfortunately for the Cardinals, all that loss did was make the Gusties angry—very angry.
The Gusties scored once in the first half and four times in the second in handing the Cardinals the conference setback.
Zach Brown got Gustavus on the board in the game's eighth minute, as Gustavus took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Gusties added their second goal less than two minutes into the second half and Brown, Aden Letcher, and Konnor Tranoris would also find the back of the net in the game's second 45-minute period to round out the scoring.
Zach Satton finished with 10 saves for the Cardinals, while Braden Schmid had five saves in goal for the Gusties.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Saturday, hosting Concordia in a 3:30 p.m. conference game at Ochrymowycz Field.
