ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — After back-to-back 1-0 losses to Simpson and St. Olaf, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's soccer coach
Pete Watkins was hoping his Cardinals' offense would get a jump-start Saturday afternoon against Bethel.
And there certainly was plenty of offense in the teams' Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.
For the Royals.
Bethel scored a pair of first-half goals and never let the Cardinals get their offense on track, handing Saint Mary's a 3-0 setback at Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
Matthew Pisarski got the Royals on the board eight minutes into the opening half, while Danny Jaderholm pushed that lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute to give Bethel a 2-0 advantage heading into the halftime break.
Saint Mary's turned up the offensive heat in the second half, but could not find a way to put one past Royals' goalkeeper Jakob Bartels. The Royals, meanwhile, got an insurance goal from Abner Arias-Olson in the game's final minute to seal the 3-0 victory.
The Cardinals (1-6-0 MIAC, 5-8-1 overall) hit the road for their final nonconference game of the season, as Saint Mary's ventures to Decorah, Iowa, for a 7 p.m. showdown against Luther.
