WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's hockey team closed out the 2013-14 season riding a three-game winning streak — not to mention four wins in its last five games.

Captaining the Cardinals' cruise through the season's final weeks were senior Bobby Thompson (Centerville, Minn.) and junior Bob Marx (Sioux City, Iowa), as the duo provided a potent and much-needed one-two scoring punch.

And their efforts — not only over the last few weeks, but throughout the entire season — earned the duo some post-season hardware, as both Thompson and Marx were named honorable-mention All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the league announced Tuesday.

Marx enjoyed a career year in 2013-14, scoring a career-high 10 goals, while adding seven assists for a career-best 17 points in 25 games. The junior — whose 10 goals were second among MIAC defensemen — recorded his second career two-goal game with a pair of tallies against UW-Stevens Point on Nov. 16, while also putting together is third collegiate two-assist and second three-point games this season.

Thompson put together a memorable final season as a Cardinal, as the senior forward owned a team-best 20 points, while sharing the lead in goals (10) and finishing second on the squad in assists (10). Thompson's 10 goals tied his career-best from a year ago, while his 10 assists and 20 points were each one shy of his career-high totals from last season. Thompson posted a pair of collegiate-best two-assist games this season — and closed out the year scoring a goal in each of SMU's final five games.

St. Thomas' Drew Fielding and Concordia's Caleb Sunderman shared the MIAC Player of the Year honor, while league-champion St. Thomas' Jeff Boeser was tabbed MIAC Coach of the Year.

As part of the conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the seventh annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for men's hockey, which included SMU's A.J. Mueller (New Berlin, Wis.)
