WINONA, Minn. — Last season, Macki Fadness (Eau Claire, Wis.) turned more than a few heads during her freshman season as a member of the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team.

And the Cardinal defenseman was rewarded for her efforts by being named First-Team All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

This season, the heads continued to turn, as Fadness spearheaded the Cardinal defense for a second straight year.

And, for a second straight year, Fadness' defensive prowess did not go unnoticed, as the Cardinal sophomore repeated as a First-Team All-MIAC selection, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Fadness had some company in the conference spotlight, as Breanna Peterson (Macomb, Mich.) joined her on the All-MIAC First-Team, while Haley Coolsaet (Grosse Ile, Mich.) was an honorable-mention All-MIAC selection.

Fadness finished the year with career highs in goals (4) and points (6), while also contributing to SMU limiting its opponents to just 28.2 shots-per-game and 2.29 goals-per-game.

Peterson, an honorable-mention All-MIAC selection a year ago, also enjoyed a banner season this year, as the junior forward scored six goals and added nine assists for a team-high 15 points. Her nine assists were a career-high, while her 15 points were one shy of the career-best 16-point effort from a year ago.

Coolsaet, switched from forward to defense for her senior season, closed out her collegiate career recording four goals and five assists for nine points.

Bethel's Cristina Masten was named the MIAC Player of the Year, while Nicki Mosbeck of St. Catherine collected the Sheila Brown Award and St. Thomas' Tom Palkowski was selected as MIAC Coach of the Year.

As part of the conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the seventh annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's hockey, which included SMU's Coolsaet.
