ST. PETER, Min. — For most, Saturday's cool, damp and rainy weather was less than ideal.

Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.) and Clare Siska (Rochester, Minn.), however, would beg to differ.

The Saint Mary's University duo put together two of the school's top steeplechase performances in sweeping the top two spots at the Gustavus Lee Krough Invitational. Stolz broke her own school record in winning the event in a time of 11:38.10, while Siska recorded the third-fastest time in program history to finish second to Stolz in 11:59.68.

And the Cardinals were just getting warmed up.

Abi Osborne (Winthrop, Minn.) picked up a first-place showing in the javelin, unleashing a throw of 40.40 meters — while also adding a fifth in the hammer throw (42.61 meters) — and Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) added a first-place time of 12.96 to blow away the field in winning the 100.

Schommer also added a third in the 400 (1:02.16) and Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.12 meters and eighth in the shot put (11.21 meters). Katherine Mockler (Dubuque, Iowa) and Amy Spitzmueller (New Brighton, Minn.) added fourth- and sixth-place efforts in the steeplechase, clocking times of 12:42.30 and 13:05.83, respectively, while Tessa Scanlon (Cologne, Minn.) was sixth in the triple jump (9.39 meters) and Allie Thiel (Burr Ridge, Ill.) was seventh in the 5,000 (19:41.36).

The Cardinals return to the track on Thursday, as SMU takes part in the St. Norbert Invitational in De Pere, Wis.
