GameDay PreviewDE PERE, Wis. — Saint Mary's University track and field coach
Niels Anderson found plenty to smile about at Thursday's St. Norbert Invitational, as the Cardinals put together nine top-five performances.
And for the second week in a row,
Abi Osborne (Winthrop, Minn.) proved to be the brightest of the Cardinals' shining stars.
Less than a week after winning the javelin with a throw of 40.40 meters at the Gustavus Invitational last Saturday, Osborne was at it again Thursday, winning the event once again with a toss of 39.00 meters. Osborne also chipped in a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.33 meters.
Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) had a busy evening, placing second in 200 (26.71), third in 100 (12.94), fourth in pole vault (2.90 meters), while
Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) was fifth in the hammer (46.17), and
Rebecca Krueger (Ashland, Wis.) placed sixth in the 400 (64.67) and eighth in the 200 (27.14).
Jacob Hagen-Erickson (Austin, Minn.) and
Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis.) led the way for the SMU men, as Hagen-Erickson placed third in long jump (6.29 meters) and Wiggert matched that with a third-place effort in the hammer (46.50).
Wiggert also tallied a fourth in the shot put (13.11 meters), while
Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Wis.) was sixth in the javelin (40.76 meters) and
Zach Palma (Washburn, Wis.) was sixth in the triple jump (11.90 meters).
The Cardinals are now off until next Saturday, April 26, when they host the SMU Cardinal Open at the Saint Mary's Track & Field Complex in Winona, Minn.
