NORTHFIELD, Minn. — It's been a recording-setting year for Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.), who entered Saturday's second day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships having already broken — and re-broken — the school record in the steeplechase.

Make that broken, re-broken and re-re-broken.

Stolz shaved 17 seconds off her previous school record in placing third — and earning all-conference honors in the process — with a time of 11:17.80. Ruth Steinke of Carleton and Jenna O'Donnell of Saint Benedict were the only runners better than Stolz in the 3,000-meter event, as Steinke won in a stadium-record time of 10:58.87, while O'Donnell was second in 11:08.05.

Stolz's performance, which concluded a remarkable junior season that also including All-MIAC and All-Region honors in cross country last fall — not to mention earning the MIAC's Elite 22 Award — was just one of many stellar showings for the Cardinals Saturday afternoon.

Abi Osborne (Winthrop, Minn.) made the most of her final collegiate track and field meet, as the senior just missed a top three finish and the all-conference honor that goes with it, placing fourth in the javelin with a throw of 37.90. Clare Siska (Rochester, Minn.), meanwhile, chipped in a 17th-place effort in the steeplechase with a time of 12:46.91.

Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis.) — another Saint Mary's senior competing as a Cardinal for the final time — and Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Wis.) each qualified for the men's hammer throw final, with Wiggert placing eighth in 46.24 meters and Kircher ninth in 46.07 meters. Jovan Newsom (Glendale Heights, Ill.) — who clocked a qualifying time of 4:14.10 in the 1,500 preliminary on Friday — broke the tape in 4:09.13 to finish 11th overall.

Newsom also competed in the 5,000, recording a time of 15:46.58 to finish 17th, while Bryan Ortman (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a leap of 12.33 meters, but failed to reach the finals in the triple jump.

In action during the first day of the two-day competition on Friday, Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.), making her third appearance in the conference championships, posted a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw — uncorking a toss of 45.77 meters. Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) had a busy day Friday, clocking a time of  13.00 in 100, while also competing in the 200 (26.85) and 400 (62.93). Rebecca Krueger (Ashland, Wis.) chipped in times of 12.83 in 100 and 26.82 in 200, while Allie Thiel (Burr Ridge, Ill.) and Bridget Hayes (Chicago, Ill.) posted times of 5:31.10 and 5:32.15, respectively, in the 1,500.

Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.), bother by stomach cramps, finished with a time of 33:19.35 to finish 13th in the 10,000, while Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis.) delivered a throw of 13.04 in the shot put, Jacob Hagen-Erickson posted a leap of 6.41 meters in the long jump, Phil Emmerich (Mondovi, Wis.) stopped the clock in 17.82 in 110 high hurdles and Andrew Markert (St. Paul, Minn.) added a time of 52.11 in the 400.
