NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams close out the outdoor portion of their 2014 season on Friday and Saturday, taking part in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by St. Olaf.

St. Thomas claimed its second-straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field title on their St. Paul, Minn., campus. The Tommies hosted the 2013 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and ran away for their 31st overall outdoor title. UST racked up 186 total points to pull away from the field and win by an even 70 points. Steve Mathre's team defeated second-place Saint John's - which interrupted a Tommie streak of five titles in six years in 2010. The runner-up Johnnies had a score of 116, and Bethel joined the top three with 103.5 points. St. Olaf finished fourth with 93.5 points and Hamline finished in the top five as well with 86 points. Carleton had 80, Gustavus has 72.5, Concordia scored 45.5 points, Macalester had 37, Augsburg scored 25 points and Saint Mary's rounded out the standings with 9.0 points.

St. Thomas continued an incredible run of success Saturday in front of its home fans. The Tommies — who served as the host school — won their ninth-straight conference title at the 2013 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The title was UST's 29th overall, as it has won 29 of the 32 outdoor titles in league history. The Tommies won title No. 29 Saturday with an overall team score of 140.5, with a 28.5 point margin over the rest of the field. Concordia had a great weekend - particularly in the field events - and was the runner-up with 112.0 points. St. Olaf (104.0) edged Saint Benedict (100.0) for third place, and Hamline (93.5) rounded out the top five. Gustavus had 81.5 points and finished sixth. Carleton's 73 points was good for seventh place. Bethel (47.5) edged Macalester (47.0) by a half-point for eighth place. Augsburg came in ninth with a total of 39.5, with St. Catherine (13.5) and Saint Mary's (9.0) rounding out the rest of the team standings.
 
SMU at MIAC Outdoor Championships — A Year Ago:
Day 1: Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) — competing in the final conference championships of his collegiate career — raced to a time of 4:03.07 in the 1,500 preliminaries to earn a spot in Saturday's final. Borash outkicked St. Olaf's Michael Roth in the first of the two 1,500 heats and heads into Saturday boasting the top time in the 12-person final field. Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) posted a 10th-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 11.65 meters to pace the Cardinal women | Recap
Day 2: Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) recorded a time of 4:13.01 to place sixth overall in the 1,500, while Maya Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) enjoyed a stellar afternoon in the hammer throw competition, as the sophomore uncorked a toss of 44.80 meters on her final throw to place fifth overall | Recap
