WINONA, Minn. — The lineup may have been different, but the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team's performance sure wasn't.
The Cardinals, who opened the season with a dominating 3-0 win over the University of Dubuque in their first match of the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic Friday, were equally as dominant in Match No. 2.
Led by 11 kills from
Macki Fadness (Eau Claire, Wis.), Saint Mary's breezed past North Park, holding the Vikings to a combined 31 points en route to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-10) victory to end the first day of the two-day tournament with a 2-0 record.
Along with Fadness' 11 kills, the Cardinals also got seven kills from both
Jenna Sullivan (Woodbury, Minn.) and
Cassidy Bittle (Winona, Minn.), while
Mary Nordick (Plymouth, Minn.) chipped in six kills and a whopping .857 attack percentage.
Tayler MacVey (Dodge Center, Minn.) and
Maddie Hess (West Concord, Minn.) each dished out 12 assists, while
Morgan Thomas (Palos Park, Ill.) tallied a team-best 13 digs.
Karina Partee tallied five kills and Brittney Garcie finished with 10 digs in the losing effort for North Park (0-2 overall).
The Cardinals are back on the court on Saturday, squaring off against Illinois Wesleyan at noon and Wartburg at 4 p.m. in Day 2 of the tournament.
