SARTELL, Minn. —
Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.) led the way for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinal junior carded an 84 during the opening round of the 36-hole Saint John's Invitational at Blackberry Ridge.
Fueled by Westerberg's 84, the Cardinals finished with a 347 team score and are sitting 18th heading into Sunday's final round at Greystone GC in Sauk Centre, Minn.
Nebraska Wesleyan grabbed the opening-day lead, shooting a 302, two shots better than Saint John's and UW-Eau Claire, while Saint John's White is fourth (305) and St. Thomas rounded out the top five with a 308.
Along with Westerberg's 84, the Cardinals also got an 86 from
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta), an 88 from
Hunter Rau (Plainview, Minn.), an 89 from
Connor Brandt (Woodbury, Minn.) and a 92 from
Hudson Stensgard (Rushford, Minn.).
Sunday's final round kicks off at 8 a.m. at Greystone CC.
