WINONA, Minn. — It was the last competitive round before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships for the Saint Mary's University men's golf team.
And
Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.) and
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta) made the most of it.
The Cardinal duo each carded five-over par 76s to share medalist honors with Winona State Purple's Jono Lindquist and Aaron Forgaard and lead the Saint Mary's Red team to a fourth-place 329 total at the Winona State Invitational Tuesday afternoon at The Bridges.
Winona State Purple took home team honors with a 310 score, five shots better than St. Thomas and six in front of Winona State White. The Cardinals' other squad, Saint Mary's White, finished fifth at 352.
Along with the back-to-back 76s from Westerberg and Jackson, Saint Mary's Red also got an 83 from
Hunter Rau (Plainview, Minn.) and 94s from
Connor Brandt (Woodbury, Minn.) and
Hudson Stensgard (Rushford, Minn.).
Saint Mary's White was led by
Tim Wolford (Maple Grove, Minn.), who carded an 81. Owen Blakeley (Elmhurst, Ill.) and
David Iten (Fridley, Minn.) chipped in 87s, and
Thomas Garside (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) chipped in a 97.
The Cardinals are now off until Oct. 4-6, when they take part in the three-day, 54-hole MIAC Championships at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn.
