ST. PAUL, Minn.—The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's soccer team headed into Saturday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against St. Thomas with a full head of steam.
 
After all, the Cardinal offense had put together its second seven-goal game of the season in their previous game—a 7-1 victory over Bethany Lutheran last Tuesday.
 
Unfortunately, the Tommies' smothering defense limited the Cardinals to just two shots on goal—and forward Morgan McConachie was a one-woman offensive wrecking crew—as St. Thomas handed Saint Mary's a 4-0 conference setback at UST's South Field.
 
The Tommies grabbed the lead early, as McConachie rifled a shot past Cardinal goalkeeper Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.) in the game's eighth minute.
 
Kari Solheim would make it 2-0 at 15:00—off an assist from McConache—and, two minutes later, McConachie found the back of the net for a second time, as St. Thomas took a commanding 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
 
Taylor Sabrowski rounded out the scoring five minutes into the second half, taking a feed from—who else? McConachie—and beating Halling for her first goal of the season.
 
The Cardinals (0-3-0 MIAC, 3-5-0 overall)—who have played six straight road games—finally return home on Wednesday after a long stretch of road games, as Saint Mary's entertains Gustavus in a 7 p.m. MIAC game at Ochrymowycz Field.
