JORDAN, Minn. — For the second time in as many outings,
Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.) fired the low round for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team.
This time around, however, the Cardinal sophomore had some company.
Hunter Rau (Plainview, Minn.) equaled Westerberg's team-low round of six-over 78 in helping the Cardinals to a fourth-place finish at the Bethany Lutheran Invitational Thursday afternoon.
"It was tough out there — the guys battled through a 30-minute rain delay, as well as very hot and humid conditions," said Saint Mary's coach
Matt Johnson, whose Cardinals posted a 324 team total, 23 strokes back of tournament champion Carleton. "We didn't play our best — and the guys are not happy with our they played. But I am proud of how we battled, and how we kept our focus through a tough day."
Along with the 78s from Westerberg and Rau, the Cardinals also got an 81 from
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta) and an 87 from
Connor Brandt (Woodbury, Minn.).
Carleton fired a tournament-low 301, four shots better than Bethany Lutheran, while Martin Luther was third with a 317.
The Cardinals are right back in action Saturday and Sunday, traveling to Hunters Ridge GC in Marion, Iowa to take part in the Mount Mercy Cropper Classic.
