MARION, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team had been enjoying a rather memorable start to the 2014 season — carding a pair of rounds that were as good, or better, than anything the Cardinals posted a year ago.
Saturday afternoon, however, the Cardinals ran into a bit of a speed bump, struggling to a 340 team score after the opening round of the Mount Mercy Cropper Classic at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.
Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.) shot a team-best 83, while
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta) and
Hudson Stensgard (Rushford, Minn.) each added 85s and
Hunter Rau (Plainview, Minn.) tallied an 87.
The Cardinals will return to Hunters Ridge on Sunday for the second round of the 36-hole tournament.
