ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. — After scoring four goals in collecting their first win of the season last Thursday, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's soccer team kept its offense in high gear on Saturday in its nonconference game against Crown.
For the first 45 minutes, that is.
The Cardinals — and Storm — each found the back of the net twice in the game's opening half, but neither could add that elusive third goal, as the two teams battled to a 2-2, double-overtime tie.
The two teams traded a pair of goals in the first half. Truman Shetler gave Crown the early 1-0 lead, scoring in the game's ninth minute, but Saint Mary's answered less than two minutes later, as
Ryan Geidner (Antioch, Ill.) netted his second of the season.
The Storm regained the advantage late in the second half on Shetler's second of the game — and sixth of the season — but again the Cardinals had an answer, as
Joe Bosco (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) scored his second of the season with less than three minutes remaining in the half.
That, however, would be the extent of the offense, as neither team could find the back of the net in the second half, or in either of the two 10-minute overtime periods.
Evan Claffy (Joliet, Ill.) finished with two saves in goal for the Cardinals, while Crown goalkeeper Tanner Fisher stopped 11 of the Cardinals' 13 shots.
Saint Mary's (1-1-1 overall) returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Bethany Lutheran in a 7 p.m. nonconference game at Ochrymowycz Field.
