MIAC Women's Hockey TeamWINONA, Minn. — When the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's hockey team takes to the ice for its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff opener against Bethel,
Macki Fadness (Eau Claire, Wis.),
Breanna Peterson (Macomb, Mich.) and
Tori Herrmann (Elk River, Minn.) will certainly be doing their part to make their presence felt.
But then, they've been doing that all year in helping lead the Cardinals to their first post-season appearance since the 2009-10 season.
And that effort has not gone unnoticed.
Fadness, Peterson and Herrmann were all named First-Team All-MIAC, while teammates
Katie LeTourneau (White Bear Lake, Minn.),
Kassie Lien (Grantsburg, Wis.), and
Marah Shields (Milford, Mich.) were honorable-mention selections, the conference office announced Thursday.
Fadness, named to the all-conference first-team for the third consecutive year, as proven to be one of the top defensemen the conference year-in and year-out. The junior finished with two goals and three assists in 18 conference games, while helping spearhead a Cardinal defense that allowed just 29 MIAC goals.
Peterson—a two-time All-MIAC First-Team selection—was the team's offensive leader, scoring five goals and adding five assists for 10 points in 18 contests. For the season, Peterson led, or shared the team lead, in all three offensive categories—goals (6), assists (9) and points (15).
Herrmann is making her first appearance on the conference's biggest stage, as the sophomore goalie is coming off a career year that included a 1.38 goals-against-average and .946 save percentage in 10 conference starts. Overall, Herrmann compiled a 1.67 GAA and .926 save percentage in 13 games, while also collecting her second and third collegiate shutouts.
Lien finished with three goals and five assists for eight points and a team-best +8 in conference play, while recording five goals and seven assists in the Cardinals' 25 games this season. LeTourneau picked up a pair of conference assists—and three overall—while Shields split time with Herrmann in goal, compiling a 1.86 GAA and .934 save percentage in MIAC play, and a 2.31 GAA and .925 save percentage overall.
As part of the conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the eighth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's hockey, which included LeTourneau.
