Tournament ResultsLESUEUR, Minn. — It was supposed to be the Bobby Krig "Spring" Invitational—Mother Nature, however, decided to rename Gustavus' annual 54-hole tournament the Bobby Krig "Winter" Invitational.
With temperatures in the 40s and whipping winds that made it feel much worse, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team made the most of a difficult situation Monday, carding rounds of 339 and 335 to finish 13th with a 1004 two-day, three-round total.
Host Gustavus and Saint John's shared the team title with identical 924s, while Saint John's Blue and UW-Eau Claire tied for third five shots back, and St. Thomas rounded out the top five with a 930 total, six shots off the lead.
Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.), who kicked things off with an opening-round five-over-par 77 on Sunday, added an 88 and an 81 to lead the Cardinals with a 246 total.
David Iten (Fridley, Minn.) chipped in a 252 three-round total (85-81-86), while
Connor Brandt (Woodbury, Minn. / 88-81-87—256),
Hunter Rau (Plainview, Minn. / 84-94-81—259), and
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta / 84-89-88—261) rounded out the Saint Mary's lineup.
Collin Seal of Saint John's Blue earned medalist honors, shooting an eight-over-par 222 (71-74-77) for a one-shot win over Gustavus' Chris Captain (72-75-76—223). Brandon Jones of Augsburg (73-77-75—225), Mitch Pfingsten of Saint John's (72-79-75—226), and Bethel's Davis Tollette (73-77-78—228) rounded out the top five.
