WINONA, Minn. — Talk about clicking on all cylinders.
The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's soccer team—coming off an impressive 5-0 win over Viterbo in its season-opener on Tuesday—was even better on Friday.
The Cardinals got scoring from six different players—including a pair of goals from
Kareem Rassas (Lake in the Hills, Ill.)—en route to a 7-0 nonconference win over Cornell at Ochyrmowycz Field.
Saint Mary's use the quick-strike offensive method in the opening half, getting goals form
Andrew Jaworski (Racine, Wis.) and Rassas less than a minute apart in the in half, then tacking on a goal by
Blake Dimock (Burlington, Wash.) seven minutes later as the Cardinals took a 3-0 advantage into halftime.
And in the second half, the Cardinal offense was even more lethal, as
Jared Wolt (Farmington, Minn.),
Chris Beiersdorf (Arlington Heights, Ill.),
Cody Balogh (Batavia, Ill.), and Rassas all found the back of the net to seal the lopsided win.
And while the offense was shifted into high gear, the Cardinal defense continued to shut down their opposition. After limiting Viterbo to just three shots on goal in Tuesday's win, Saint Mary's did not allow the Rams a shot on goal on Friday.
The Cardinals (2-0-0 overall) are back in action on Sunday, hosting North Park in a 1 p.m. nonconference game at Ochrymowycz Field.
