MENOMONIE, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track teams were good at the season-opening Cardinal Early Birdinal last weekend.
And the Cardinals were even better this time around.
The Cardinals collected 10 top-5 finishes—including a first-place effort by
Clare Siska in the 400 and a first-place showing by the men's 4x200 relay—at the UW-Stout Open.
Siska posted a time of 1:04.36 in winning the 400 to pace the Cardinal women in the non-team-scored event.
Becca Dup chipped in a second-place time of 8.31 in the 60, while
Kynzie Smedsrud (60 hurdles, 10.57),
Erika Thiel (mile, 5:59.14), and
Alicia Berkenes (800, 2:36.73) all posted fourth-place finishes.
Allie Thiel added a sixth in the mile (6:04.61), with Missurelli chipping in an eighth in the pole vault (2.65 meters) and Smedsrud tallying a ninth in the 200 (28.75).
The 4x200 relay led the way for the Saint Mary's men, as James Davis, Morris Dennis, Ross Kinderman, and Desmond Steward won the event with a time of 1:34.95.
Bryan Ortman had another busy day, placing second in the triple jump (6.12) and eighth in the long jump (6.10 meter), while Austin O'Hare added a third in the mile (4:40.51), and Brandon Krogman (800, 2:08.43) and Jase Pater (3,000, 9:37.30) recorded fourth-place times. Steward led the Cardinal long jumpers, place fifth with a leap of 6.18 meters, while Jacob Hagen-Erickson was seventh in the event with a mark of 6.12 meters. Davis posted a seventh-place time of 7.31 in the 60, while Joe Gardner was eighth in the 60 hurdles (9.23).
The Cardinals are back on the track next Saturday, as Saint Mary's travels to River Falls, Wis., to take part in the UW-River Falls Falcon Winter Classic.
