COON RAPIDS, Minn. — For Saint Mary's University of Minnesota golf coach
Greg Moore, the game plan for the opening round of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships was simple—get off to a good start.
Maybe not so simple.
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn.) shot a team-best eight-over-par 80 to lead the Cardinals to an opening-round 326 and a ninth-place showing.
David Iten (Plymouth, Minn.) chipped in a 81, followed by
Hunter Rau (Rushford, Minn.) with an 82, followed by an 83 from
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta) and an 84 by
Blair Sanders (Lees Summit, Mo.).
Kaitlin Kling (LeRoy, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinal women shooting an 81. Madison Gately chipped in a 91, followed by Michaela Hueckendorf and Grace Gillis with 100s, and a 113 from Sarah Munns.
The 54-hole tournament continues on Sunday with the second round at Bunker Hills Golf Course. The tournament's final 18 holes will be played on Monday, also at Bunker Hills.
