GameDay Preview
ST. PAUL, Minn. — After an impressive preseason, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf coach
Greg Moore was excited to see what his squad could do when the they were playing for real.
And the Cardinals did not disappoint.
Led by
Hunter Rau's (Plainview, Minn.) two-over-par 74, the Cardinals rolled to a season-opening 304-326 win over Macalester in the teams' annual MacMary Dual at Highlands National.
Rau wasn't the only player to turn in an impressive opening round, as
David Iten (Fridley, Minn.) and
Kyle Brodt (Roseville, Minn.) chipped in 75s and
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) added an 80.
Blair Sanders (Lee's Summit, Mo.), playing as an individual, matched Rau's low round of the day with a 74 in his collegiate debut, while
Chad Cesarz (Jackson, Mich.) added a 78 and
Owen Blakely (Elmhurst, Ill.) finished with an 82.
The Cardinals are back in action this weekend, traveling to Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake, Minn., to take part in the 36-hole Augsburg Invitational.
