STEVENS POINT, Wis. — If the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams' performances at Saturday's UW-Stevens Point Big Dawg Invitational are any indication, coach
Niels Anderson is going to be one happy camper at the indoor season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships next weekend.
The Cardinals recorded 10 Top 3 finishes—including a record-setting performance by
Brandon Krogman in the 800—as the Saint Mary's men placed third, while the women were fourth.
"It was a really, really good day for us," said Anderson. "Brandon had a huge performance in the 800, but he was just one of so many that had great performances for us today.
"We had loads of personal-bests—and we're excited about the MIAC Championships next weekend."
Krogman accounted for one of the Cardinals' three first-place finishes, breaking his own school record in the 800—which he set last weekend—with a time of 1:55.62.
Kyle Lichttenegger picked up the other two firsts for the Saint Mary's men, winning the 60 (7.14) and the 200 (23.57), while adding a third in the long jump, with a leap of 6.49 meters.
Desmond Steward chipped in a second in the triple jump (13.14m), with
Jovan Newsum adding a third in the mile (4:23.11).
Austin O'Hare and
Ross Kinderman also had impressive showings, with O'Hare placing fourth in the mile (4:23.90) and Kinderman leaping 6.24m to finish seventh in the long jump.
Becca Dup continued her dominance in the long jump for the Cardinal women, winning the event for the fourth straight meet, posting a jump of 5.50m. The Cardinal sophomore also placed second in the 60 with a time of 8.14.
Molly Sweet and Maria Missurelli each added third-place showings—Sweet's in the mile (5:30.48) and Missurelli's in the pole vault (3.18m)—while Natalie King (weight throw / 5
th, 13.32m), Portia Mensah (60 / sixth, 8.49), Danielle Franke (mile / sixth, 5:39.08), Alyssa Thiel (3,000 / sixth, 11:32.14), Erika Thiel (3,000 / eighth, 11:46.85), and Bailey Joens (shot put / 10
