WEST DUNDEE, Ill. — Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta) and Tyler Dove (Hudson, Wis.) carded season-best four-over-par 76s to lead the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's golf team to an eighth-place finish after the opening day of the Carthage Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament Friday afternoon.

Jackson and Dove (Hudson, Wis.) weren't the only ones turning in stellar performances during the opening day of the 36-hole event, as Robert McNaney (Mendota Heights, Minn.) added a five-over 77, followed by a 78 from Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.) and an 86 by Blair Sanders (Lee's Summit, Mo.).

The Cardinals finished with a 307 team total to earn their eighth-place spot in the 20-team field. Carthage is the first-round team leader, shooting a 289, two shots better than Calvin, with Illinois Wesleyan I (294), Illinois Wesleyan II (294), and Central-Iowa (302) rounding out the top five.

Carthage's Matt Megeghetti shot a three-under 69 to post the day's best individual performance and hold a one-shot lead over Millikin's Michael Barber heading into Saturday's final round.
