ST. PAUL, Minn. — For the second straight Saturday, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota swimming and diving teams found themselves spending the day in a St Paul pool.
And for the second straight Saturday, Cardinal head coach
Amber Lowe left with a smile on her face.
The Cardinals put together 10 top-five finishes at Macalester's Roger Ahlman Invitational — with the SMU men recording six top fives, while the Saint Mary's women added four.
Griffin Rades (Shawano, Wis.) led the way for the Cardinal men, placing first in the 200 IM (2:06.41), while adding thirds in both the 100 backstroke (58.42) and 200 backstroke (2:07.63).
Cole Stepanovich (St. Francis, Wis.) delivered a second in the 100 butterfly (58.39), while Josh Anes Dy Quiangco (Rochester, Minn.) posted a third in the 100 backstroke (1:03.92), and
Alex Morrow (Stevens Point, Wis.) and
Darren Anes Dy Quiangco (Rochester, Minn.) went 3-4 in the 200 butterfly with times of 2:14.56 and 2:26.74, respectively.
Darren Anes Dy Quiangco also added a sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:00.70) and an eighth in the 200 breaststroke (2:37.35), with Stepanovich pitching in an eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.17).
On the women's side, Brooke Shefchik (Stevens Point, Wis.) posted the Cardinals'' top individual finish, placing second in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:42.03. Shefchik also added a fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:49.69), while Emme Quandt (Shawano, Wis.) was fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:40.82) and Katie Beitz (Blaine, Minn.) finished fifth in the 50 freestyle (27.80).
Amanda Hansen (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) posted a sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:13.69) and a seventh in the 1000 freestyle (13:01.97), with Ashlyn Seifert (Austin, Texas) adding a sixth in the 100 freestyle (1:00.73) and Beitz posting eighths in both the 100 (1:01.63) and 200 (2:12.50) freestyles.
The Cardinals hit the road again next Saturday, heading to Decorah, Iowa, to take part in the Luther Sprints
