DECORAH, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota swimming and diving teams took to the pool for one final time before the Thanksgiving break — and the Cardinals made the most of it.
Griffin Rades (Shawano, Wis.) picked up a pair of third-place finishes to lead the way for the Cardinal men at the Luther Invitational, while Brooke Shefchik (Stevens Point, Wis.) picked up a fifth and Katie Beitz (Blaine, Minn.) added a sixth to pace the Saint Mary's women.
Rades clocked a time of 4:36.98 in the 400 IM to place third, while adding third-place finish No. 2 with a time of 58.85 in the 100 backstroke.
Alex Morrow (Stevens Point, WIs.) delivered a sixth-place showing in the 400 IM (4:51.06), while Josh Anes Dy Quiangco (Rochester, Minn.) was ninth in the 100 back stroke (1:05.90) and
Darren Anes Dy Quiangco (Rochester, Minn.) finished 10
th in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.12). In the one-meter diving,
Jack Wells (Glenview, Ill.) placed second (130.60) and Nick Sawchuk (Rochester, Minn.) was third (100.00).
Shefchik stopped the clock in 5:20.28 to place fifth in the 400 (M and Beitz delivered a sixth-place time of 2:13.02 in the 200 freestyle.
Kizzy Bell (St. Paul, Minn.) added a seventh in the one-meter diving (129.70), Emme Quandt (Shawano, Wis.) and Erica Camarato (DeForest, Wis.) chipped in ninths in the 400 IM (5:35.77) and 100 breaststroke (1:21.27), respectively, and Claire King (Red Wing, Minn.) notched a 10
th in the 200 freestyle (2:17.87).
The Cardinals are now off until Nov. 30, when they head to the Rochester Rec Center in Rochester, Minn., for the three-day Rochester Invitational, hosted by St. Cloud State.
