WINONA, Minn. — After losing to St. Thomas 7-2 a week ago, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team was looking to rebound against North Central when they hosted the Rams on Friday night.
Â
And rebound they did.
Â
The Cardinals didn't wait long to find their winning ways—sweeping all three doubles matches 8-0. And the Cardinals kept their pedal to the metal en route to a 9-0 victory at the Winona Tennis Center.
Senior
Sheyenne Bauer (Cannon Falls, Minn.) earned one of those victories with a 6-2, 6-1 win. She said what she enjoys most about being on the Saint Mary's tennis team is the team aspect.
"I get to play my favorite sport with all my friends," she said.
Saint Mary's women's tennis coach
Jeff Halberg said Bauer has really bought into the team spirit.
"She's absolutely team-oriented, and a great example for her teammates," he said. "She's learned how to attack by dishing out power and learned how to handle power when it's served to her."
Bauer agreed.
"I've become a more aggressive and more consistent player," she said. Â "I try to instill in my teammates the significance of treating each other equally."
Halberg said Bauer is held in high esteem by her teammates.
"She has great integrity and great spirit which has made her loved and respected by all of her teammates," he said. "I'm really proud of the player and person she's become."
Bauer and the Cardinals will play again on Sunday, March 18 when they face Concordia College in a 9 a.m. faceoff at Courts Plus Community Fitness in Fargo, N.D.
