GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team was virtually unstoppable Sunday in its two nonconference matches against Wisconsin Lutheran and St. Norbert.

The Cardinals opened the day dominating Wisconsin Lutheran in a 9-0 sweep, and followed that up with another near-perfect showing in dropping St. Norbert 8-1.

"The ladies got off to a great start today, playing solid tennis throughout against Wisconsin Lutheran," said Saint Mary's coach Jeff Halberg. "And we finished off the day in spectacular fashion with a great performance against St. Norbert."

The Cardinals did not waste any time flexing their muscles against Wisconsin Lutheran. Rolling to 8-1, 8-1, and 8-2 wins in the three doubles matches, before winning all six singles matches in straight sets — including 6-0, 6-0 wins from Laura Sonday, Cassandra Barr, and Julia Biebel in the top three spots.

And it was more of the same in their second match of the day against St. Norbert.

The Cardinals again raced out to a 3-0 lead with convincing wins of 8-1, 8-0, 8-5 in doubles action, and collected straight-set singles wins from Sonday, Colleen Lois, Barr, Boeve, and Ashley Frederickson to ice the win.

Sonday followed up her 6-0, 6-0 win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against the Green Knights, while Lois lost just one game at No. 3, winning 6-1, 6-0, and Biebel delivered a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4.

The Cardinals, who improve to 9-7 overall, are back in action on Tuesday, hosting UW-River Falls in a 3 p.m. nonconference match at the Winona Tennis Center.
