KENOSHA, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota volleyball team entered Saturday's second day of the Carthage Tournament in a rather foul mood.
Losses to the University of Chicago and Concordia (Wis.) the previous evening will do that to a team.
And the Cardinals took out their frustrations on Milwaukee School of Engineering Saturday, cruising to a convincing 3-0 victory over the Raiders. Saint Mary's did not waste any time disposing of MSOE in their opener, posting back-to-back 25-20 wins, before closing out the match with a 25-14 win in the third set.
Saint Mary's picked up right where it left off in its final match of the season, rolling to a 25-22 opening-set win. From there, however, it was all Carthage, as the Lady Red rattled off convincing 25-10, 25-14, and 25-15 wins to seal the come-from-behind 3-1 victory.
The Cardinals hit a whopping .340 as a team against MSOE, led by
Brandi Blattner (Eyota, Minn.) with 14 kills and a .560 attack percentage.
Lillian Braun (Mantorville, Minn.) dished out 34 of the team's 41 assists, while
Carley Cronen (Kandiyohi, Minn.) recorded a team-best 13 digs and
Grace Gilles (Apple Valley, Minn.) chipped in four aces.
Blattner put together her second straight 14-kill performance against the Lady Reds, with Braun dishing out 36 assists and Cronen finishing with a team-leading 18 digs.
The Cardinals (7-5 overall) return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, hosting Augsburg in a 7 p.m. matchup at the Saint Mary's Gym.
