MOORHEAD, Minn. — If the first four games of 2019 are any indication, it might be save to say that this could be the Year of the Tie for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's hockey team.

For the third time in their first four games of the new year, the Cardinals went into overtime Friday evening — and settled for a tie.

A 1-1 tie … again.

Concordia scored the game-tying goal less than four minutes into the third period, as the Cobbers handed Saint Mary's its third 1-1 deadlock of 2019 at the Moorhead Sports Center.

Carson Sheridan (Waunakee, Wis.) opened the scoring for the Cardinals, netting her second of the season — off an assist from Carolyn Chrastka (Franklin Park, Ill.) — with just 35 seconds remaining in the opening period.

The Cardinals would cling to that one-goal lead until early in the third period, when Megan Mohr scored on the power play to pull Concordia even at 1-1.

Neither team would find the back of the net over the final 16:02 of the third period or in the five-minute overtime in settling for the tie.

Ary Ziakas (Palatine, Ill.) finished with 28 saves in goal for the Cardinals — recording half of those stops in a 14-save second-period effort — while CC's Brittany Boss stopped 21 of Saint Mary's 22 shots on goal.

The Cardinals (1-5-1 MIAC, 4-6-3 overall) and Cobbers meet again Saturday in the second game of their two-game conference series. Game time at the Moorhead Sports Center is set for 2 p.m.
