ST. PETER, Minn. — Gustavus entered Saturday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rematch with the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team feeling a bit festive.

In fact, the Gusties did an Oscar-worthy rendition of Ebenezer Scrooge — a performance that left the Cardinals saying, "Bah, humbug."

The Gusties, who had allowed just six goals in their first eight games — including two to the Cardinals in Friday's 2-2 overtime tie — proved to be as miserly as the A Christmas Carol character they were portraying in the team's rematch.

Gustavus limited Saint Mary's to just four shots on goal — and a lone third-period tally — in dropping the Cardinals 5-1 at Don Roberts Ice Arena.

Gustavus left little doubt on Saturday, erupting for three goals in the game's first 13 minutes and adding another with 20 seconds remaining in the period to take a 4-0 cushion into the locker room after 20 minutes of play.

The Cardinals held the Gusties off the board in the second period, and finally broke through with a goal of their own when Courtney Moser (Blaine, Minn.) scored off an Anya Hafiz. (Woodbury, Minn.) assist at 3:23 of the third period.

Gustavus, however, answered with its fifth of the game, four minutes after Moser's tally to round out the scoring.

Jordan Keeley (St. Peter, Minn.) made 10 saves in the first period for the Cardinals, before giving way to Ary Ziakas (Palatine, Ill.), who stopped 23 shots in two periods of work. Emilia Helms-Leslie picked up the win in goal for the Gusties, stopping three of Saint Mary's four shots on goal.

The Cardinals (2-3-1 MIAC, 2-6-1 overall) are now off until Jan. 4-5, when they return home to the Saint Mary's Ice Arena for a pair of nonconference games. Saint Mary's will face UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m. on Jan. 4, before entertaining Marian at 2 p.m. the following afternoon. The Gusties (5-0-1 MIAC, 8-0-1 overall) are back in action for a pair of nonconference games against UW-River Falls next week. GAC and UWRF will square off at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at W.H. Hunt Arena in River Falls, Wis., before returning to the Don Roberts Ice Arena in St. Peter, Minn., for Friday's 7 p.m. rematch.
