ORLANDO, Fla. —
Bobby Tiedemann (Euclid, Minn.) did his part for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's tennis team Tuesday afternoon.
Unfortunately, Tiedemann's wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles were all the Cardinals could muster in dropping a 7-2 nonconference decision to Hanover at the U.S. National Tennis Center.
"The guys played a great match against a high-quality opponent," said Saint Mar's coach
Jeff Halberg. "Bobby (Tiedemann) played some incredible tennis today — he played excellent doubles and followed that up by playing even better in singles."
Tiedemann and
Trevor Smiley (Minnetonka, Minn.) teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, but the Cardinals found themselves staring at a 2-1 deficit heading into singles play.
Tiedemann followed up his doubles effort with a marathon, 3-6, 6-4, 10-1 win at No. 1. The Panthers, however, were victorious in the other five singles matches — including Jed Fajt's 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 win over Saint mray's
Jared Hippman (Bollingbrook, Ill.) to round out the victory.
The Cardinals (4-5 overall) are now off until March 8, when they head to St. Paul, Minn., for a 6:30 p.m. Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against Macalester.
