WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's tennis team — coming off a heartbreaking 5-4 conference loss to Concordia last Sunday — were in dire need of a pick-me-up when the Cardinals took the court against Crown Friday evening.
And the Storm proved to be just what the doctor ordered.
The Cardinals stormed out to a 3-0 lead after the three doubles matches and just picked up steam in singles — cruising to straight-set wins in all six singles matches, en route to a 9-0 nonconference win at the Winona Tennis Center.
"It was a solid win tonight," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "Everyone got to see action, and came through with a solid performance. Great way to start the weekend."
The Cardinals dominated all three doubles matches, losing just one game, and continued that dominance up in singles action, surrendering just six games — including three 6-0, 6-0 wins — to seal the victory.
The Cardinals (5-9 overall) are back in action on Sunday, traveling to the Pleasant Valley Tennis Center in Jackson, Wis., for an 11:30 a.m. nonconference match against Concordia (Wis.)
