GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team kicked off a busy three-match weekend in convincing fashion Friday evening, cruising to a 9-0 win over Crown.
Â
And the Cardinals picked up right where they left off on Saturday, rolling to their second 9-0 win over the weekend, this time sweeping St. Norbert at the Four Seasons Tennis Center.
Â
The Cardinals — who dropped just one game in Friday's rout of Crown — were nearly as dominant against the Green Knights, picking up convincing wins in all three doubles matches, while adding straight-set victories in all six singles matches.
Â
"The ladies played absolutely awesome today," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "Top-to-bottom, they played with skill and energy — it was a great win."
Â
Laura Sonday (West St. Paul, Minn.) and
Colleen Lois (Green Bay, Wis.) delivered an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, with
Cassandra Barr (Eau Claire, Wis.)/
Kennedy Morgan (Green Bay, Wis.) and
Julia Boeve (St. James, Minn.)/
Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) chipping in 8-3 and 8-0 victories, respectively, to give Saint Mary's a 3-0 cushion after doubles play.
Â
Sonday notched a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 1 singles, while Barr was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 2. Lois cruised to a pair of 6-1 wins at No. 3, with Boeve (6-0, 6-1), Morgan (6-3, 6-2), and
Madyson Schreiber (Edwardsville, Ill. / 6-0, 6-3) completing the sweep.
Â
The Cardinals — winners of seventh straight in improving to 9-5 overall — closed out their nonconference weekend on Sunday, traveling to Pleasant Valley Tennis Center in Jacksoin, Wis., for a 9:30 a.m. match against Concordia (Wis.).
