ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field teams close out the outdoor portion of their 2019 season on Friday and Saturday, taking part in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by St. Thomas.

Men: St. Thomas clinched its seventh consecutive championship. The Tommies totaled 198.5 points to win the 36th MIAC outdoor title in program history and the team's 31st conference championship since 1983. Sixty-and-a-half points separated the Tommies from second-place Carleton, which finished the Conference meet with 138 total points. Saint John's came in third with 114.5, followed by Bethel in fourth with 90, Hamline in fifth with 75 and St. Olaf in sixth with 70. Gustavus finished with 63 points, good for seventh-place, while Concordia tallied 44 points to come in eighth. Macalester, Saint Mary's and Augsburg rounded out the field with 24, 23 and 18 points, respectively |

Women: St. Thomas clinched its 14th consecutive MIAC outdoor track and field title. The Tommies totaled 186.5 points to win the 34th MIAC outdoor title in program history. The Tommies and second-place Carleton were separated by 83.5 points in the final standings. Saint Benedict and St. Olaf tied for third with a total of 92 points each, followed by Hamline with 91. Gustavus finished sixth with 75 points, Bethel ended up seventh with 57, Concordia eighth with 44 and Saint Mary's ninth with 41.5. Macalester, St. Catherine and Augsburg rounded out the field with 39, 24, and 13, respectively |

• The Cardinals enter the MIAC Outdoor Championships with several athletes on the verge of NCAA National Championship-qualifying marks.
Rachel Ohde (Chetek, Wis.) is currently 12th in the country in the high jump (1.68m), while
Christian Beamer (Two Harbors, Minn.) is tied for 21st in the high jump (2.02m) and
David Kemper (Woodbury, Minn.) is tied for 22nd in the pole vault (4.75m). The Cardinals' 4x100 relay team of
Kyle Lichttenegger (De Pere, Wis.), Noah Anderson,
Matt Boone (Mindoro, Wis.), and
Desmond Steward (Milwaukee, Wis.) — which shattered their own school record at the Hamline Meet of the Unsaintly last Saturday, placing first in 41.68 — is currently sitting 31st in the nation. … Lichttenegger also added another first-place effort in the 100, winning with a time of 10.79, narrowly missing out of breaking his own school mark of 10.74, set earlier this year. … Beamer also had a stellar day at the Hamline meet last Saturday, clearing 1.96 meters in the high jump to finish tied for first, while Kemper added a third in the pole vault (4.75m) and Boone chipped in a fourth in the 200 (22.66). … Ohde led the way for the Cardinal women at Hamline, posting a second-place leap of 1.63 meters to place second in the high jump, while
Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.) placed fifth in long jump (6.24m) and added an eighth-place effort in the 400 (1:00.37). … Cardinal jumpers collected five Top 5 finishes at the mid-week U of M and Tommie Twilights on May 1. On the men's side, Beamer led the way, winning the high jump with a leap of 1.97 meters at the U of M Twilight, while Lichttenegger added a third-place showing in the long jump with a leap of 6.33 meters and Steward was fourth in the triple jump, posting a mark of 13.27. On the women's side, Klausler (leapt her way to third in the long jump with a mark of 4.99 meters, and Ohde cleared 1.56 meters to place fourth in the high jump at the UST Tommie Twilight. … The Cardinals posted 24 Top-10 performances at the Saint Mary's Open on April 25. … Beamer shattered the 14-year-old school mark in the high jump at the Saint Mary's Open, clearing 2.02 meters — easily besting the old mark of 1.97m, set by Rob Friendt in 2005. … Anderson (200, 22.10), Lichttenegger (long jump, 6.55m),
David Kemper (Woodbury, Minn. / pole vault, 4.71m), and
Jordan Malikowski (Royalton, Minn. / steeplechase, 10:36.56) all chipped in second-place efforts for the Cardinal men at the Saint Mary's Open. …
Danielle Franke (Mounds View, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinal women at the Saint Mary's Open, placing first in the steeplechase with a time of 12.27.25, while Ohde was second in the high jump (1.63m). … Kemper cleared 4.71m to place third in the pole vault at the Phil Esten Challenge on April 19, while Ohde placed sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.58 meters. … The Cardinals kicked off the outdoor season in style, recording 12 Top-10 finishes at the Ashton May Invitational on April 6. Ohde, who dominated the high jump during the indoor season, picked up right where she left off, winning the high jump at the Ashton May Invitational with a leap of 1.68 meters. … Kemper, Lichttenegger, and Beamer recorded second-place showings at the outdoor season-opening Ashton May Invitational on April 6 — Kemper placing second in the pole vault (4.60 meters), Lichttenegger in the 100 (10.74), and Beamer in the high jump (1.88m). … Lichttenegger's 10.74 time in the 100 was a school record, breaking his own mark, set in 2017 … The Cardinals posted four Top 3, All-MIAC performances at the indoor season-ending MIAC Championships. Ohde cleared 1.65 meters on her first attempt en route to an All-MIAC second-place finish in the high jump, while Steward claimed back-to-back third-place showings in the long jump (6.69m) and triple jump (14.07m), and Kemper closed out his final indoor conference championships with a mark of 4.32m to finish third in the pole vault. … Ohde placed first or second in all seven high jump competitions she was entered in during the 2019 indoor season. … Beamer shattered the Cardinal school record in the indoor high jump at the MIAC Championships, clearing 1.96 meters in winning the event as part of the men's heptathlon. Beamer's mark easily broke the old record of 1.91m, set during the 2005 indoor season. … Lichttenegger shattered the school record in the indoor 200 — clocking a time of 22.60 — at the MIAC Championships. … Kemper broke the 14-year-old school record in the indoor pole vault — clearing 4.61 meters — at the St. Thomas Showcase on Feb. 8. The Cardinals garnered six first-place finishes — and one meet record — at the Luther Alumni Meet on Feb. 2. Ohde led the way for the Cardinals, winning the women's high jump with a meet-record 1.62-meter leap. … The Cardinals boasted 10 first-place finishes at the indoor season-opening Early Birdinal.
