HARTFORD, Wis. —
Joe Abdo (Edina, Minn.) carded a one-over-par 73 — leaving the sophomore in second place individually — to lead the Saint Mary's University men's golf team to a seventh-place showing after the opening round of the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational Saturday.
Abdo heads into Sunday's final round trailing first-day leader Jordan Knutson of Carthage, who opened with a two-under-par 73. Abdo is one of four golaers three shots back, while five more are just two off the lead.
Edgewood shot the day's best team score, posting a 379 for a one-shot lead over Carthage. Concordia-Wis. is third (381), followed by St. Norbert (398), Wisconsin Lutheran (399), Carroll (402), and Saint Mary's (403).
Along with Abdo's one-over 73, the Cardinals also got a seven-over 79 from
Bryce Galewski (Winona, Minn.), while
Cooper Craiger (Des Moines, Iowa / 81),
Alex Allen (Monticello, Minn. / 85),
Blair Sanders (Kansas City, Mo. / 85), and
Jake Emeott (Chisago City, Minn. / 91) rounded out the Saint Mary's lineup.
The two-day, 14-team tournament concludes on Sunday, with a second 18 holes at Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wis.
