CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The second day of the Coe Invitational looked eerily similar to the first for the Saint Mary's University volleyball team.
A day after opening the tournament by dropping their first match, before regrouping for a 3-1 win in their second, the Cardinals were at it again during Saturday's final day of the two-day event — once again dropping the opening match, before posting a 3-1 victory in the second.
UW-Eau Claire had the upper hand in Saint Mary's first match of the day, as the Blugolds cruised to set wins of 26-24, 25-13, 25-12 for the 3-0 victory.
Saint Mary's bounced back in their second match, outlasting Cornell 3-1 — thanks in part to a thrilling, 28-26 win in the fourth set.
Daynalyn Jostock (Millville, Minn.) and
Linnaea Wallis (Dresser, Wis.) led the Cardinals offensive against UW-Eau Claire, recording seven kills each, while Jostock also hit a team-best .389.
Lillian Braun (Mantorville, Minn.) chipped in 24 assists, with
DeJaye Baab (Wabasha, Minn.) delivering 12 digs.
Erin Lime (Lino Lakes, Minn.), Wallis, and
Rachel Kedl (Lamberton, Minn.) led the Cardinals' offensive attack against Cornell. Lime finished with a team-best 13 kills, with Kedl and Wallis each adding 12. Braun dished out 49 assists, and Baab collected a team-leading 22 digs, with
Lexi Barth (Byron, Minn.) adding 11.
The Cardinals (8-6 overall) return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, traveling to Macalester's Leonard Center in St. Paul, Minn., for a 7 p.m. match against the Scots.
